Vegan Vodka Sauce Pasta

 


For most people, they buy pre-made tomato sauce in a can or a jar. But if you like making authentic Italian food, then making your own tomato sauce is a key skill to develop. And of course, tomato sauce is naturally vegan.

Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp salt
16 oz Pasta
14 oz can Tomato Sauce
Vegan Cheese (optional)

Cheese Sauce:
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp flour
1 cup unsweetened plain oat milk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
1 tsp paprika
2 garlic cloves chopped
⅓ cup vegan cheese

Steps:

1. Boil water in a large pot over high heat, add 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1 tbsp of salt. Prepare pasta according to the package instructions.

2. In a small pot, add 2 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Then sprinkle in the flour and whisk together.

3. Next add the 1 cup of non-dairy milk gradually while whisking. It should be a thick consistency, so at this point add the vegan cheese and stir until it melts completely. Add the remaining spices and garlic for the cheese sauce and make sure it is fully incorporated.

4. Gradually add water and stir until the cheese sauce loosens up a little and turns into a sauce.

5. Once you have this basic cheese sauce, add the tomato sauce and keep the pot on medium low heat until the pasta is ready.

6. Once the pasta is ready, mix the sauce in with the pasta and let it coat all of the pasta. Add to a plate and top with vegan cheese.
