Vegan Hawaiian Pizza

 

Let’s be clear, you do not have to give up pizza when going vegan. Just think that the quality of you pizza is going to improve. You will find greater variety instead of always getting the same “cheese and pepperoni” pizza all the time. Here’s a pizza made in the Hawaiian with a whole wheat thin crust.

Ingredients

Whole wheat pizza dough ingredients:
1 cup regular flour
1.5 cups of whole wheat flour
1 cup water
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp yeast
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp salt

Pizza toppings:
Tempeh bacon
Pineapple chunks
Black olives
Pickled jalapeños
Vegan mozzarella
8 oz tomato sauce

Steps:
1. Mix the sugar in 1 cup of warm water, let it dissolve thoroughly. Then add the yeast and mix thoroughly. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
2. Gradually add the mixture of both flours. After adding 1 cup of flour, add the olive oil and salt and mix them in thoroughly. Next gradually add the rest of the flour until the dough firms up and is no longer sticky.
3. Kneed the dough for about 2-3 minutes. Place the dough in a bowl and cover with a kitchen towel, and let this rise for about 2-3 hours.
4. Preheat the oven to 450.
5. After the dough has risen, roll the dough out, sprinkle flour on it, and roll it flat.
6. Place the flat dough on either a pizza stone or a cookie sheet. Bake for 7 minutes.
7. Remove from the oven, flip over and begin adding pizza toppings in the following order: a) tomato sauce, b) tempeh bacon, c) olives, d) pickled jalapeños, e) pineapple, f) vegan mozzarella.
8. Bake pizza with all the toppings for 8-10 minutes.
